General Questions
1. What is the Alternative Media Gateway?
The Alternative Media Gateway (AMG) is a directory of alternative news sources.
Each news source listed in our direcotry has a profile, which contains
descriptions of the news source, information about its location and ownership,
and reviews of the news source written by AMG editors and visitors like you.
2. What is the purpose of the Alternative
Media Gateway (AMG)?
Visit the About Us section of our website to learn
more about the AMG.
3. What's wrong with the "corporate" media
anyway?
For more information regarding the most important flaws in our current media
system, we recommend checking out the
"Beginners Guide to the Media" at the FreePress.Net website.
4. Why can’t I find the news website that
I’m looking for?
If you are looking for a specific alternative news source in our directory, you
can either Browse
the Directory, or
Search the Directory.
If the website you are looking for is not currently listed in the AMG Database
yet, you
recommend we add it .
Questions About Adding New Websites or Reviews
1. Who can add sites to the Alternative
Media Gateway database?
Everyone is encouraged to suggest new alternative media websites to the AMG
database. The easiest way to do so is by clicking the
Suggest a New Site link in the navigation menu on the left side of the
screen.
2. What type of sites are included in the
AMG database?
The AMG aims to provide alternatives to the mainstream corporate media and
therefore only “alternative media” websites are included in the AMG database.
Currently, the only news sources that we exclude from our definition of
"alternative media" are those sources that are either owned by, or affiliated
with, the 52 major media companies profiled by the Columbia Journalism Review's
"Who Owns What" webpage.
We are interested in hearing your thoughts on what other guidelines we should
use to define "alternative media". If you have any suggestions, please provide
us with Feedback.
3. Why can’t I find the new website or new
review I added?
All new websites submitted to the AMG are added as soon as they are
reviewed by AMG editors. New reviews submitted to the AMG are
automatically added as soon as they are submitted. If you submitted a website
or review, but it hasn't been added to the AMG directory, feel free to
contact us.
